On our final day in Hanoi, Coop and I got breakfast and then parted ways for the afternoon. I went to the Vietnamese Women’s Museum (conveniently located a block from our Air BnB!) and then walked around the lake while he rested and booked our next leg of the trip. Here are some fun facts we learned during our time in Hanoi and at the Women’s Museum:
– Motorbikes remain the most popular means of transportation in Vietnam, which has a population of around 92 million people and 45 million registered motorbikes, according to the Ministry of Transport.
– At 3,850 linear meters (6,950m²), the Hanoi Ceramic Mosaic Mural was the world’s largest ceramic mosaic and awarded a Guinness World Records certificate.
– At least 1/6th of the ethnic groups in Vietnam are matrilineal societies (!!!!!) in which children take the mother’s name, girls inherit family wealth, and the youngest girl is the most privileged (@jamiew you should move to Nam).
Quote from the museum, “although every child is precious, girls are preferred.”
Thank you all! And here’s a few pictures from Cat Ba (where we are now!)
